New Exterior Design Language
Honda says the new Prologue will offer a new design language, marking a shift from the company’s existing paradigm. Responsibility for the vehicle’s design will fall on the firm’s internal team of young and driven designers working to make the vehicle appeal to a diverse market.
The “neo-rugged” concept originates from Honda’s idea to harmonize mechanical engineering with nature. The vehicle will feature 21-inch wheels, a panoramic roof, and a capable, centred exterior, giving drivers confidence on the road. Everything from the front fascia to the rear trunk design helps the vehicle blend organically into the environment with poise and presence.
Honda’s design lead Masaki Sumimoto says the goal is to create harmony based on the rugged SUV image. His team coordinates various colours and materials to give customers a new type of styling that’s uniquely Honda.
To this end, Honda will replace its usual “H” badge with the “Honda” brand name on the Prologue. The change will set the EV apart and mark a phase shift in the Japanese automaker’s branding priorities and tone.
Performance And Specifications
Honda is keeping the lion’s share of details about the new Prologue close to its chest. However, we know some things about the in advance of its 2024 North American release date.
For instance, Honda says the vehicle will have a wheelbase of 3094mm, which is 203mm longer than the existing CR-V. It will also be 127mm wider, giving it a more capable stance on the road and enhancing practicality.
The interior volume will be 2900 litres for passengers and cargo, and the vehicle will come with various tech accessories, including an 11-inch drive instrument display and an 11.3-inch infotainment screen. The drive train will be all-wheel-drive (AWD), and, as expected, emissions will be zero. Honda’s Electric Future
The Prologue represents a critical step in Honda’s plans to become an electric vehicle maker. The company says volume EV sales will commence in 2024 with the Prologue and will continue with multiple additional vehicles in the years ahead.
Steve Hui, the assistant vice president of Honda Canada, says that the arrival of the new Prologue is the natural progression from the Canadian CR-V hybrid, which will become available this fall. Honda hopes its extensive research and development in EV technology will enable the firm to transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and increase greener car sales. Over the coming years, the company wants 50% of the CR-Vs it sells to be hybrid. By 2030, it will have over 30 new EVs globally and aims to achieve company-wide carbon neutrality by 2050.
