The new 2025 Civic Hybrid
The new 2025 Civic Hybrid is set to be powered by a version of the award-winning Honda two-motor hybrid-electric system. This will offer improved responsiveness and a relaxed driving environment at highway speeds, while also providing excellent fuel economy to keep running costs low. It’s already received numerous accolades, such as winning the prestigious “Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems” award in the 2023 Honda Accord.
The return of the Honda Civic Hybrid comes after Honda ended production of the Honda Insight in June 2022, a vehicle that was very closely related to the Civic. Honda seems to be bringing back the Civic Hybrid for a 2025 model year thanks to the company’s recent big push into electric vehicles.
Production to Start With the Sedan in Ontario
According to a press release from Honda, the company expects to begin production of their next-generation Civic Hybrid in 2024 as a 2025 model-year vehicle. The company will begin with sedan production in Ontario, which will be joined by the hatchback at Honda’s Indiana factory.
Production of the new Civic Hybrid will join the CR-V Hybrid at the same plant. Together, the two production lines will form an integral part of Honda’s global electrification plans as they transition Canadian consumers to a hybrid electrified future.
Honda will also be celebrating the production of their 6 millionth Civic in October 2023 at Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) in Alliston, Ontario.
Civic Hybrid Joins the CR-V and Accord in Honda’s Expanding Hybrid-Electric Line-up
The new Civic Hybrid is a huge step forward in Honda’s electrification strategy where it aims to equip all of its core models with hybrid-electric engines for the foreseeable future. In 2023 alone, around 35% of all CR-V and Accord sales have been hybrid-electric trims. Honda also revealed that around 20% of their total sales in Canada have been exclusively electric models. They expect that the Civic Hybrid will represent around 40% of all Civic sales across North America.
Honda previously announced their intention to make battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles 100% of its new vehicle sales by 2040. The Ontario plant also announced a $1.38 billion investment over six years to upgrade and retool their existing plants to be equipped for battery electric vehicles by 2025. These funds will also be used as part of Honda’s global electrification and carbon neutrality goals.
