Hello readers,
In this edition of Chris’ Comic Corner, I asked my daughter to point to the hero she wishes me to recommend a story about, and sure enough, she chose Spiderman.
The issue we are covering today is a rather special issue, as not only is it the 300th issue of Spiderman, but it is also the first introduction of arguably one of his most infamous villains – Venom.
From the start we see Peter Parker arrive home to find Mary Jane hysterical as someone wearing his old symbiote suit had broken into their home. Mary Jane thought it was Peter until she saw fangs emerge from the intruder’s mouth. We fast forward to a dilapidated building where we see an individual (Eddie Brock) talking to himself about his plans to grow stronger so “they” can destroy Spiderman, the one “they” both blame for all of their problems. Peter Parker reflects on the alien costume he got on Battleworld (Secret Wars – future installment), and how it tried to permanently bond with him, using him as a host.
While Peter thought the symbiote was destroyed, it had now latched on to Eddie Brock – an individual whose hatred for Peter and Spiderman has only strengthened his bond with the symbiote to the point where Eddie believes “they” are now one. Eddie, through the knowledge of the symbiote has learned the secret identity of Spiderman, trapping him in a game of cat and mouse.
What follows is explosive action as Spiderman tries to figure out who Venom is and if he can possibly defeat his enemy who not only has all of the same powers and abilities as him, but also has those powers significantly amplified by the symbiote. Fueled by the desire for revenge and filled with rage, Venom will stop at nothing to take down the wallcrawler.
Will Spiderman survive this potentially deadly encounter and be infected by the poison that is Venom?
Read Spiderman issue #300 to find out!
