Pilot earns Top Safety Pick+ Rating
Thanks to high performance across N.A. facilities

The 2023 Honda Pilot is an SUV for the safety-conscious era, designed and proudly built in North America to protect drivers, pedestrians, and passengers.

Winning the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) this year signifies the crowning achievement in Honda’s ongoing commitment to keeping all road users safe.

The standout aspect of the 2023 Honda Pilot’s safety performance is its remarkable score on crash avoidance and mitigation evaluations. When tested, it scored high marks during day and night conditions, doing exceptionally well on vehicle-to-pedestrian criteria. The IIHS’s recognition of Honda’s expertise reflects the company’s unwavering decision to create vehicles that protect occupants and actively work to prevent collisions.

Honda’s underlying philosophy is its “Safety for Everyone” concept, which focuses on advancing safety for all road users, not just those in its vehicles. Because of this, the manufacturer equips all vehicles with Honda Sensing technologies, which include the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Adaptive Cruise Control. All these options, Honda says, will come as standard on its new Pilot vehicles, making the road safer for everyone.

Engineering also contributes to the Pilot’s fantastic safety performance. For instance, the 2023 model comes with the manufacturer’s proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, designed to protect occupants from frontal collisions. It also offers an expanded ACE structure integrated into the front sub-frame and side-frame, enhancing crash compatibility with smaller cars and improving passenger protection in oblique, side-on collisions. An additional feature included on new Pilot vehicles is the brand’s award-winning front passenger airbag with three chambers as standard. It inflates intelligently during frontal impacts, reducing the risk of injury.

With that said, Honda focused on more than safety when crafting the new Pilot. The brand also illustrated its commitment to and belief in the ingenuity and craftsmanship of its team to develop a rare, one-of-a-kind vehicle.

Leaning on the Honda Design Studio in California, engineers at the company’s North American Development Center in Ohio intelligently designed the Pilot to meet the company’s exacting safety specifications. The resulting vehicle, built at Honda’s Alabama Auto Plant, showcases North American ingenuity at its finest and proves it’s possible to produce fantastic vehicles outside of Japan that will thrill consumers in the North American market.

The high IIHS rating, though, isn’t the end of Honda’s accolades. Every single one of the manufacturer’s models scored a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score in NCAP testing, representing the company’s commitment to safety for all its drivers, passengers and every pedestrian using the roads.
